Talk by Dr. Jean-Baptiste Clais and Opening of French Art Exhibition

Moderator: Dr. Nadhra Shahbaz Naeem Khan

Guest Speaker: Dr. Jean Baptiste

Hosting a talk with the curator from the Louvre at GCLL created quite a frenzy amongst the Art History students at LUMS. It was a pleasure to have a curator who is not just well versed with the western artefacts, but also with the Asian ones. The talk by Dr Jean Baptiste (Curator of Asian Art and porcelain collection at the Musée du Louvre, Paris) proved to be highly informative and insightful, especially with regards to the material culture of artefacts. It helped students understand the art made during the French Art Neoclassicism to Post-Impressionism period better and helped to formulate parallels between the aesthetic, socio-political and religious ideas embedded between the art practices of the time and the contemporary art practice.
