The Academic Writing Workshop

In The Art of Rhetoric, Aristotle writes that “A good style must, first of all, be clear”. While most things have changed since Aristotle, this quote still rings true for academic writing. The art of academic writing allows ideas to be articulated and embodied in a way that can make them more accessible and relatable to their audience. Therefore, most graduate programs demand a rigorous and thorough command of academic writing. It could seem a daunting task to get through when we’re not aware of the methodologies and complexities it involves. However, if learned from experienced instructors, academic writing can help you excel in your program and your career.

The Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature is organizing an Academic Writing Workshop for Mphil, PhD scholars, and other university students. Seasoned professors and scholars like Dr. Najeeb Jamal, Dr. Moeen Nizami, Dr. Najiba Arif, Dr. Abid Sial, Dr. Nasir Abbas Nayyar, and Dr. Fatima Fayyaz will conduct the workshop in person. Dr. Shafay Kidwai (from India) will be joining via Zoom. They will delve into often the overlooked nuances and subtleties of academic writing that separate good writing from excellent writing. Using decades of experience,

the professors will teach academic research, citation, referencing in work, bibliography, and ways to avoid plagiarism.

25 MPhil and PhD scholars will be selected as per the criteria set by Bunyād/GCLL across the country with a registration charges of 1000/- PKR. If you think this is the perfect next step in your academic career, don’t miss the opportunity to apply! Applications close by Saturday, 3rd September 2022.
