In The Art of Rhetoric, Aristotle writes that “A good style must, first of all, be clear”. While most things have changed since Aristotle, this quote still rings true for academic writing. The art of academic writing allows ideas to be articulated and embodied in a way that can make them more accessible and relatable to their audience. Therefore, most graduate programs demand a rigorous and thorough command of academic writing. It could seem a daunting task to get through when we’re not aware of the methodologies and complexities it involves. However, if learned from experienced instructors, academic writing can help you excel in your program and your career.
