Talk by Dr. Jean-Baptiste Clais and Opening of French Art Exhibition
The Gurmani Centre is delighted to invite you to a talk by Dr. Jean-Baptiste Clais, Curator of Asian Art and porcelain collection at the Musée du Louvre, Paris, and an exhibition featuring creative projects by students of an art history course titled “French Art: Neoclassicism to Post-Impressionism” offered in Fall 2021.
The creative projects showcase students’ reflections of the aesthetic, socio-political or religious ideas embedded in artworks presented to them in the course and serves to exhibit art’s capacity to negotiate temporal and spatial distances. These expressions also serve to present a strong cultural link with the eighteenth and nineteenth century French society and several socio-political moments of our history and some contemporary practices.
The exhibition includes projects ranging from intuitive learning solutions for schoolchildren as well as trivia sets for seasoned history buffs. it also features a unique sensory engagement project aimed at reimagining the haptic spaces surrounding famous masterworks so as to maximise the immersive experience of viewing great art.
The talk is on the 21st of March 2022, at 10:00 am at the Faculty Lounge, and the exhibition will be on display March 21-28, 2022.
